Stranded

I’ve been driving past this house on Route 22 just south of Millerton, NY since I was in college. I have always loved it - it’s creepy. It’s also sad because I always wondered who used to live there.

This stretch of road connects NYC to Montreal believe it or not. It’s a winding two-lane lens of America where you can see everything from abandoned houses to restaurants to working dairy farms and mobil home parks. A very talented photographer named Benjamin Swett did an entire book on Route 22.

I photographed the house in the fall of 2021 with a Fuji GFX100s medium format camera. I love how this camera is able to catch every speck of paint on the house. I did it quickly without a tripod because of the “no trespassing signs.”
